The Fences of Philadelphia
Philadelphia is the largest city in the state of Pennsylvania and the 5.8 million who call the greater Philadelphia are home make it the fifth-largest metro area in the USA. Philadelphia, also known as the City of Brotherly Love, is perhaps most famous for staging the signing of the Declaration of Independence and as home to the popular Liberty Bell.
Philadelphia is somewhat less famous for its fences. Nevertheless, there are some remarkable fences and some remarkable fence-related photography, which we are pleased to share with you here.
Remarkable Philadelphia fence photography
Heaven on earth – a wooden fence graces a beautiful garden in Philadelphia. If only all our garden fences enclosed such beauty.
Chain link lace fence at The Design Center of Philadelphia University, displaying a flower garden right in the fencing materials (and showing off some amazing design skills, too!)
Fenced in gazebo overlooking the Philadelphia Museum Of Art.
No word whether LOTGK stands for Lord of the Gate Keepers.
A metal fence surrounding a Philadelphia playground. There is really nothing special about this fence
but we thought the photography was superb.
The ultimate pet containment fence - a lion fence at the Philadelphia Zoo
A great example of using negative space in art - a heart "carved" out of a Philadelphia chain link fence.
Nothing special about this wrought iron fence at the Kimball St. Garden in SW Philadelphia, but we thought we would finish up the way we began - with beautiful fence photography.
These are just some of the unique and intriguing fences bordering the streets and gardens of Philadelphia. Maybe they will inspire you to build an equally unique fence on your property. Or maybe you want something a little more conventional. The choice is yours.
